Pakistan needs a massive political change – Imran Khan

Pakistan needs a massive political change – Imran Khan
Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan has expressed that the country needs a massive political change in order to move forward in the modern world and to meet the challenges at the domestic as well as at the international front.
Imran is without doubt the most popular political leader amongst the educated class of the country since last eight years, since he took a principle stance against the so-called war on terror. The cricketer turned politician has always advocated for dialogue
instead of use of force. Time has proved him right as now even the US is trying to negotiate with Taliban.
Over the years, the Chairman PTI has proved his honesty and sincerity with the country through amazing works like Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and the NAMAL University.
As a result of all incompetence of the traditional political parties, PTI emerged as a major political force in Pakistan last year and has become a symbol of change.
Some of the political analysts of the country are of the opinion that PTI is going to offer a massive challenge to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League (N) in the upcoming general elections.
While talking to the press, the cricketer turned politician said that his party is about to give a clear-cut future policy very soon and will start a nation-wide membership campaign from the 25th of March, 2012 and after that PTI will hold elections
within the party.
Imran vows that his main objective is to eradicate corruption from the country.
He said, “We are coming out with a road map to bring change which has become inevitable now, To curb corruption and promote merit in the country is our main mission. To end seething confusion, a comprehensive party structure will be put in place."
There is no doubt about the fact the Imran is the most popular political figure in the country at the moment but whether his party will be able to make a huge impression in the coming elections, remains a massive question mark. It is surely going to be a
huge task for PTI to dismantle the hegemony of the two mainstream parties.

What Imran Khan is not

LAHORE: This is with reference to Saroop Ijaz’s article titled “The lies and triangulations of Imran Khan” (March 11). It is one thing to disagree with someone but quite another to use words like deceit, lies, mentally handicapped etc. There is a way to refute an argument, or indeed build one without being nasty but Mr Ijaz, for whatever reason has preferred viciousness over sober reasoning.
There are, in essence, two issues that bother the writer so much. One is Imran Khan’s vow to eradicate corruption and the second, what Mr Ijaz chooses to allege; his fondness for the Taliban. Let me try and elaborate a bit on both. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Imran Khan are indeed determined to finish corruption from the country and the vow is that ‘high level’ corruption will be finished in ‘90’ days not ‘19’ days. This confusion on the number of ‘days’ is misreporting by a section of the media and it was simply a mishearing of what Imran Khan said. To start questioning his mental faculties on a misreport just shows what kind of hate filled mindset the writer has.
Secondly, on the question of Taliban: again, a section of the media has distorted Imran Khan’s message. A letter does not provide the space to elaborate in totality his point of view but simply put, he does not subscribe to the militant ideology of any of the radical organisations. His point of view is that, instead of carrying out a virtual genocide in the tribal areas through a military campaign, a peace process be initiated in which the local tribes take the responsibility of maintaining peace and isolating those, who when isolated would be nothing more than criminals. Once they have been marginalised they can be dealt with.
People like Mr Ijaz are a rare variety of liberals found only in Pakistan who actually want military operations, bombings, strafing and killings on a large-scale. Imran does not believe this solves anything. Indeed, he feels it adds to militancy because of the inevitable collateral damage. He is a national leader who believes in bringing all the people together, whatever their ethnicity or ideology. This is the core reason why people like the writer himself are so anguished by his rise.

Turkish NATO helicopter crashes in Kabul, 10 dead: police

KABUL: At least 10 people, including a woman and two children, were killed Friday when a NATO Turkish helicopter crashed into a house and burst into flames on the outskirts of Kabul, officials said.

"So far we have recovered 10 bodies, eight of them are foreigners possibly Turkish nationals - it is a Turkish helicopter," said Kabul's criminal investigations chief Mohammad Zaher.

"Two children and a woman, have been recovered from the rubble," said interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi.

Police and local residents were digging to find survivors, he said.

A spokesman for the US-led NATO force in Kabul said the helicopter was operated by the International Security Assistance Force but would not identify which country's military it belonged to.

"We are investigating the cause of the crash but there were no reports of insurgent activity in the area," he said. (AFP)

PTI National Membership Campaign and Party Elections

Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan became one of the very few, if not the only, politician at present in Pakistan to announce a membership campaign as a result of which all the party leadership, including Imran Khan, will have to be elected to their positions by voting of all party members.
The goal of the national recruitment campaign of PTI is to get approximately 4,000,000 members and its strategy will be announced in coming days. Imran Khan said that the party had seen great nationwide popularity and new members after the Lahore rally on October 30, 2011 and that he wanted the campaign to clarify the confusion that had resulted after PTI was inundated with new members.
Imran Khan said:
Party elections are to take place in order to guarantee that no leader of PTI gets a designation due to favoritism or bias. Party elections will signal an end to hereditary politics in Pakistan and will ensure that PTI will not be dependent on Imran Khan and that it continues to function properly even without my presence.
Imran Khan keeps on proving his critics wrong, especially, this step of party elections will set a new standard in Pakistan politics. Both the mainstream parties of Pakistan are ruled by the families and they are family parties rather than national parties. PTI will be the first national party which will be elected by the members of the party and will work in the interest of the nation and not Imran Khan’s family!

ICC dismisses India match-fixing claims

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council on Monday dismissed a claim in a British newspaper that Indian bookmakers were fixing the results of English county games and overseas fixtures.
The chief executive of the sport’s world governing body, Haroon Lorgat, described a report in Britain’s Sunday Times that it wasprobing last year’s World Cup semi-final between India and Pakistanas “baseless and misleading”.
“The ICC has no reason or evidence to require an investigation into this match,” he said in an emailed statement to media.
“It is indeed sad for spurious claims to be made which only serve to cause doubt on the semi-final of one of the most successful ICC Cricket World Cups ever.”
The weekly claimed on Sunday that it had uncovered evidence that tens of thousands of pounds (dollars) was on offer to players to throw part or all of international matches, including the crunch semi-final between the bitter South Asian rivals.
India won the match and went on to beat Sri Lanka in the final.
One New Delhi-based bookmaker was quoted as saying that English county cricket was a “good new market” because matches were low-profile. Money was on offer to batsmen to score slowly and bowlers to concede runs in a set pattern, the report said.
The allegations came just weeks after former Essex bowler Mervyn Westfield became the first English cricketer to be jailed for corruption, after admitting accepting money to fix a match against Durham in September 2009. Last year, Pakistan players Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer were also jailed in Britain for their role in a separate “spot-fixing” scandal concerning a 2010 Test match against England.

PTI's membership campaign to be largest in Pakistan's history: Imran Khan

Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Monday in his twitter massage directed to launch nationwide membership campaign for winning support of masses.
"PTI is launching massive nationwide membership drive in coming week. It will be the largest campaign of its kind in Pakistan's history," he said.
He said that PTI membership drive will bring in four million new members/voters for the party by awakening the youth, who are passionate for change.
Imran Khan said that the party will become a political institution rather than a vehicle for family politics unlike most of the mainstream Pakistan family political parties.
PTI will also hold elections for all party positions. In this way, it will be only party in Pakistan history where all leaders will be elected by all the membership, he added.
"PTI is the voice of the people and has their support including Pakistan diaspora. Allah has given me all I need," he tweeted.
